The Adamawa state Government has announced the breakout of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Taraba State.
Director Veterinary Services, Ministry of Livestock and Aquaculture, Doctor Bartholome Nyalas announced this during an interactive session with Poultry Association of Nigeria Adamawa state chapter held at ministry headquarters on Tuesday.
The Director explained that the state government has dispatched its Rapid Response Team along the border areas of Taraba and Adamawa since the report of the outbreak was received to prevent its spread into the state.
Doctor Bartholome noted that Avian Influenza virus spread among birds and so far, no case of the virus has been recorded in Adamawa state.
He explained that the bird flu is non-curable and has no vaccine as of now, and urged members of the public to report any suspicious bird flu to the Ministry of Livestock and Aquaculture for prompt action.
On his part, the Team led of Rapid Response, Ministry of Livestock and Aquaculture, Doctor Ige Maxwell Tillo said Ganye, Jada, Mayo Belwa and Numan local government areas were placed on alert as proactive measures have been taken by the ministry to prevent the disease from entering the state which can affect food security, Food Safety, Public Health and livelihood.
Doctor Tillo urged members of the public to desist from eating sick chicken and birds for the safety of all, stressing that the ministry would embark on sensitization in market places and other public gatherings to enlighten people on dangers of Avian Influenza virus.
Commenting, the Secretary Poultry Association of Nigeria Adamawa state, Leslie Johah commended the Ministry of Livestock and Aquaculture for organizing the interaction session and pledged to step down the messages to its members.
